Lares – Machu Picchu (4 days 3 nights)

Lares – Machu Picchu (4 days 3 nights)

First day

At 6.00am we start our trip and first go to the Hot Springs in Lares. After that we start our hiking tour and reach the village Huacahuasi after about three hours. There we spend the first night.

Second day

Early in the morning we keep going and hike up to 4'350 m until the pass of Ipsaycocha. We have a beautiful view on all the mountains around. We then hike down again to the lagoon of Ipsaycocha where we will spend the night.

Third day

During the third day we follow the trail through the river valley downhill for about three hours to the town of Lares. You get the chance to swim in an open air thermal spring before we take the bus at around 1.00pm to go to Ollantaytambo and then Aguas Calientes by train. We are going to spend the last night in Aguas Calientes.

Fourth day

We will have breakfast at 5.45am then catch the first bus to Machu Picchu (15 minute ride) in order to appreciate the magnificent city as the sun is rising. A walking tour (approximately two hours) is given by your guide and after this you can explore the mysterious city by yourself. If you still have energy you can also climb Huayna Picchu. It takes 45 minutes to reach the top. You will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes (it can be reached by bus or on foot, it's up to you) for lunch and be given your train tickets back to Cusco. The train usually leaves at 3.55pm and we will arrive back in Cusco at about 8.00pm.
