Climbing Ampato volcano
First day
We leave Arequipa at around 7.30am-8.00am in a 4x4 vehicle and make for the Patapampa. After approximately four hours we reach 5'000 m. From this point we start our walk to the base camp situated at 5'700 m. It takes between four and five hours to get there. At the base camp we are going to set up the tents and have dinner afterwards. We go to sleep quite early, in order to be fit on the second day.
Second day
Early in the morning at around 2.00am we start again and are going all the way up to the top. We reach the summit at 6'350 m after six or sever hours. From there we have a beautiful view on the surrounding landscape. After spending some time on the top we go back down to the base camp to grab our belongings and finally arrive at the vehicle that will be waiting for us. We will be back in Arequipa at around 6.00pm.
Option
It is possible to carry out this climbing ascent in three days. In this case, we only walk until 5'400 m on the first day and overnight at this altitude. On the second day we go on to the base camp at 5'700 m where we will overnight. Finally we reach the summit on the third day.
