Situated on the highest navigable lake in the world, the Titicaca Lake, are the Uros Islands . We will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the port to take a boat to the islands. The Uros people are ancient inhabitants of the area, and today continue to live on their artificial islands made from totora reeds, which they have done for over forty years. Today they are visited by tourists from all over the world. Originally, the Uros did not welcome unknown visitors, they were timid, and shied away from human contact, needing to be coaxed out of their totora retreat with gifts of coca leaves and bread. With time the islands, which were an hour and a half away from Puno, have moved themselves closer as the people wished to be more connected to the city, after 1986 floods. They are now very welcoming. A tourist can visit pretty much everything, from their houses to their handicraft activities.
