Do I have to be fit to do your trips?
For our trips it is necessary to be in good physical health, but how fit depends on the itinerary you choose, as for certain trips you have to walk for more than six hours. The areas where we usually walk are flat. You also need to carry everything by yourself (sleeping bag...). we normally walk very slowly as it is the best way to observe the flora and fauna.
Is there any danger of malaria in the Manu Jungle?
The risk of malaria is very low in Manu and in the Bonanza Ecological Reserve. We recommend that you take good insect repellent and use long sleeved shirts and trousers all the time. If you choose to bring medicines against malaria, please check the side effects of these as they might be quite severe. It is always recommended to bring one's own medicines, but it is also possible to buy them in the jungle. In Manu there is Plasmodium Vivax, which is curable. You have to be vaccinated against yellow fever for the jungle. A vaccination against tetanus is also important.
How big are the groups?
We have usually groups up to 6 people that go with one guide. In case there are more there are going to be 2 guides. In case of more than 10 people we are going to split the people into two groups. The chances to observe animals are bigger when the groups are small.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag and binoculars?
Yes, you need to bring a sleeping bag for the tour. Normally the temperature is 15C at night, a hot climate, but sometimes, it can be colder, in the winter months (July to August). Binoculars are essential, animals can often be at a distance, or high in the trees, and this is the best way to get a good look at them. Sleeping bags and binoculars can be hired in our agency as well. Just let us know before.
