After breakfast in your hotel, our tour begins with a transfer to the boat that will take us across the highest navigable lake in the world for approximately twenty-five minutes until we arrive at the Uros floating islands. They were built by their ancient inhabitants using the only material abundant in the area - totora reeds. We can still now appreciate their customs. After twenty-five minutes more by boat we will arrive at Taquile island, situated past the Chuchito peninsular and Capichica, at 35 kilometers from the lake port. Taquile is located at 3'800 m and its highest point is 4'000 m. It is shaped like a lizard. The inhabitants continue wearing their traditional dress and are renowned for their handicrafts and textiles. The island terrain is rocky, meaning that throughout history, inhabitants of the island have built terraces to use the cultivatable land to full advantage. In case you want to spend a night on this island, it is always possible. There are a lot of locals that rent rooms to foreigners. If not, we are taking the boat and going back to Puno and then to the hotel.
