Trek Colca Canyon (2 days)

First day

The guide is going to pick the passengers up at their hostels at around 3.00 in the morning. We will then make for Cabanaconde (3'287 m) in private transport. In Cabanaconde we are going to have breakfast first and are also having a short rest, before leading to San Miguel. From that point, we start hiking.

The first day is quite physical. We'll first go down into the canyon for approximately three and a half hours until we reach the bridge at the bottom. We will reach the village of San Juan de Chuccho (2'200 m) soon after. Depending on the pace of the group, we may have our lunch there. It is also possible to carry on walking an hour more to the next community of Cosnirhua (2'450 m) to have lunch. We will have a short break and then continue walking until we reach the Oasis Sangalle (1'230 m). On this first day, we will walk about seven hours, mainly downhill. At the Oasis we will have time to enjoy a fresh pool of 24 degrees. After a pleasant dinner we will go to sleep early in bamboo houses in order to be fit on the next morning.

Second day

We will wake up early and start our ascent to Cabanaconde at around 2.00am. It will take between three and four hours to reach Cabanaconde, where we will have our breakfast. The pathway up is rocky and sandy. From Cabanaconde we will make for the Cruz del Condor (approx. 40 min) with the private transport. We will enjoy watching the awe-inspiring condors fly and also appreciate the depth of the canyon. We will stay here for an hour before making our way to Chivay, the most important town in the length of the valley. Afterwards we will take taxis to the hot springs of La Calera for a well deserved swim (35C) very appreciated by your muscles. Back in the centre of Chivay the lunch will be waiting for us. In the afternoon we will make our way back to Arequipa where we are supposed to arrive at around 6.00pm.
